People of Turkey, will you heed this warning?

I am Turk, lol I never understood why Native-English Speakers decided to call this bird as "Turkey" so that's why I wanted to do some researches about it. I found out when first European settlers migrated to American continent ( I guess around 15-16 century ) they saw this bird chilling around and they decided to call it as "Turkey" it's because this bird seemed very fury and rich to them so they found it similar with a Turkish/Ottoman Sultan since they were also wearing fury, rich clothes and they decided to call it as Turkey to remember it's name better, since they believed they found a similarity between these two lol.
I wouldn't want this bird's name to be Turkey tho, we spent centruies with fighting against our enemies with our sword & shield, we were never conquered by anyone and always independent but that's what we get? To be called a "bird" 😂 Turkish government wanted to change like 10-15 years ago but USA wanted huge amount of money to change its meaning from their dictionaries so it never happened.
What the fuck story? I am also Turkish and there is no such thing. Turkeys were probably given this name because they resemble a bird from turkey. Also, how we were not conquered? From the 16th century to the 20th century, we constantly lost land. Arabs made us Muslims by sword. Leave these bullshit.
@tornikef
There are two theories for the derivation of the name turkey, both of which may be correct, according to Columbia University professor of Romance languages Mario Pei. One theory is that when Europeans first encountered turkeys in America, they incorrectly identified the birds as a type of guineafowl, which were already being imported into Europe by Turkish merchants via Constantinople and were therefore nicknamed Turkey coqs. The name of the North American bird thus became turkey fowl or Indian turkeys, which was then shortened to just turkeys.
A second theory arises from turkeys coming to England not directly from the Americas, but via merchant ships from the Middle East, where they were domesticated successfully. Again the importers lent the name to the bird; Middle Eastern merchants were called Turkey merchants as much of that area was part of the Ottoman Empire. Hence the name Turkey-cocks and Turkey-hens, and soon thereafter, turkeys.

@tornikef Learn English you dumb, what you mean we were Arabs between 16 century between 20 century? We were Ottoman Empire during that time and fighting against crusades you dumb fuck, we were never been invaded or conquered by anyone. What you trying to say is "getting influenced by Arabs for many years" sadly Ottoman Empire was influenced by Arabs and Persians but they spoke Turkish and they knew they were Turkish, they seperated theirselves from Arabs too.
Thanks for the valuable information and sorry for the reply above lol, it's hard to deal with stupid ignorants sometimes. Between 16. cc to 20th century, we were Ottoman Empire and we were never been conquered however there are some Turks here today who don't lik Ottomans because they believe Ottomans were influenced by Arabs and it caused our own culture to be changed and be similar with Arab culture so that's what he meant by saying "we were conquered by Arabs" it's actually we were "influenced by them" dude's English is low just nevermind him.
Yeah the information and source u gave makes more sense, tbh I never saw this bird in Turkey :D whenever I look at it's wikipedia it says it's origin is from South America but most propably it can be like how u say since Ottoman Merchants were pretty much famous around those years.
We were not influenced by the Arabs, the Arabs made us Muslims by sword. If you learn the history from Kadir Mısıroğlu, you will disgrace yourself like this. Fortunately they didn't call the penis "turkey". It's chilling too because ahahaha.
My English may be bad. There is not only English in the world. Your Georgian is bad. Not knowing English is better than being an idiot.
@tornikef I am not fan of Kadir Mısıroğlu, I am Kemalist and follow Mustafa Kemal Atatürk's path but it doesn't mean I dont like Ottoman Empire, I know my past and I know what is right and what is wrong. You talking about Shamanist Central Asian Turks who were forced into Islam by Arabs and that's true, they weren't conquered tho they were just "invaded" and their lands were looted&razed by the Arab Caliphate. However not all Turks changed their religion like that, there were many Turkic states in Central Asia.. first arrival of Islam religion to Central Asia was like that but others adopted it, they learned it such as Karahan Khanate and Ghaznavid Dynasty, they weren't forced into Islam they adopted it theirselves.. you can't generalize the whole Turkic states cause one only one of them were forced into it. Later Hülagü Khan, leader of Ilkhanate Dynasty invaded Arab lands tho and said "I got revenge of my ancestors revenge"
Bad enough I'm hidding from deer with guns. Now I have to worry about turkey season
Woh there, hold it. i'm not from Turkey I'm safe
Dodge the bullet on that one
System won't allow me to choose MHO yet.
Well thank you. As tou noticed they pull my question off the site. (it was not in a form of a question)
I’m so glad I’m not the only one here who makes these connections because sometimes I feel so alone with it lol
Oh, no, I think we are equally crazy/off/odd/demented/brilliant. :) :) :)

And probably cover it with a gravy containing Greece and serve it all on - all at once now- China!
I'm not so much a fan of Turkey. I may do something unconventional this year and eat Chile!
Keep an eye on the weather- it could be Chile today and hot tamale.
I think I am going to banish you to Punisia!
Some people couldn't even suck the shit out of a dead turkey. But they could sure stuff it. I'm thinking people in the US are the only ones with the tradition of eating turkey at Thanksgiving. Now, what country do you pick on for Pumpkin Pie?
1. Most of the world does not celebrate Thanksgiving. A few other countries have a similar holiday but it is not on the same day as the US Thanksgiving celebration.
2. Everyone knows that Pumpkin Pie originated in Pumpkinistan! Duh! :) :) :)
We always get our turkey and sides on Thanksgiving eve
Lol
I'm going to devour Turkey!!!
Those poor damn Turks will never know what hit them!
🤦♀️🤦♀️
Sorry OlderandWiser, I don't like your point of view.
It is intended to be nothing more than humor. You don't like that?
Okay. Score: Like humor 10 Don't like humor 1
You reminded me this picture. It says for itself 😁
Yup i got me a 20 pounder, im smoking it
Man, when I was younger I smoked a lot of things, but I never thought about smoking turkey!
I don’t like Turkey that much I mean the food
Can’t wait. It’s my super bowl.
Hate the taste of it.
That's kinda racist
Lighten up, Francis. It's just harmless humor.
I know I was kidding haha
Though I'm pretty sure someone would say it's unironically racist, considering the stupidity of the world these days
Okay, we're good. This illustrates te problem o communicating through texting. You were being sarcastic but I couldn't tell just by reading the words you wrote.
Yeah limitations of texting online haha
(Another reason why LDR's never work)
Certainly more difficult for young people who want to rely on texting!
They are called Turkey farmers.
No?
