The problem with the promise to end fossil fuels is that it's an idiotic, unachievable goal in even a remotely short term, and more often than not plays out to be a scam. The state of California for example likes to brag about how much green energy they've brought in to replace fossil fuel powerplants, but in truth they are now importing 25% of their power from fossil fuel plants Mexico. A very similar issue is now biting European countries like Germany in the ass where they outsourced fossil fuel energy to Russia while propping up their wind plants only for those to fail to meet needs in the winter, and now oil and gas from a hostile nation poses a diplomatic and security problem.

Basically, a promise to "go green" with current techbology and infrastructure with power that doesn't directly involve development of nuclear energy is either the lie of a con artist, or the dreams of an idiot.

In regards to gas powered cars, the technology actually exists to produce synthetic fuel with net zero carbon emissions that will work with most if not all combustion engine cars, which at the very least could act as an interim while critical steps for full on electric (which I still wouldn't support) could be made. For what I can only imagine are purely political reasons, basically no developed nation that ostensibly cares about "climate change" is seriously considering that, even though it is a far more feasible measure. In the case of the incumbent swamp creatures in the US government however, it is for environmental protection in name only; their actual measures tend to be disastrous and completely void of logic that was even known to primitive natives hundreds of years ago (case in point: last year's wildfires), and the entire "Green New Deal" is a thinly veiled mass overhaul of the country that is not only financially unachievable, but blatantly intended to strip away private ownership of housing and vehicles, and herd as many people as possible into dense residential zones. As this information has gotten more readily available, public support for it has understandably tanked, but the true endgoal hasn't changed, and the latest moves are actually being done in the offices of huge corporations. Given the ability to do so, the US will establish a permanent "renter class" that is entirely at the mercy of government control, even if indirectly through a half dozen or so mega-companies.

I think the breakdown of the family pushed by the liberals have made many in this country substitute government for religion and a father figure. Therefore, half the country wants government to tell them what to do. They don't want to be free, because then they have to be responsible.
