Question for real American's. Do you remember if we got our smallpox vaccine when we were young and in school?

I can't seem to remember if that was one of the vaccines we were given back then. I can only remember the polio vaccine. Do you remember?

I do. Both took place in grade school. One injection was made with a needle and the other was with some sort of pneumatic injection. I hate needles (I actually fear them) but the pneumatic injection was far worse than the needle.

I don't remember which was which, but I have an injection scar on my upper left arm which tells the tale.

I got one, but I don't remember if I got it at school or from my doctor. Those were those subcutaneous pin pricks that caused a blister and left you with a permanent scar on your arm.

I'm pretty sure it was smallpox. I looked it up. They injected you with a "pox" virus.

Can't remember either. But I got a few when I was a child, then a jab at 14 and another at 16.
These contained various vaccines for every possible disease from small pox flu to diphtheria (D) to tetanus (T) to pertussis (whooping cough, P) to polio (IPV) to haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib) to hepatitis B to measles and others. Stuff our great grandparents grew up with but most people have never heard of. Probably most doctors would misdiagnos some of the things we are vaccinated against if they ever encountered them because they are so rare.

As a kid in elementary school, I remember getting either one or two shots (along with a lot of other kids, all at the same time, out in the hallway). But I don't know what kind of "vaccines" they were.

Remember it was a small round scar looking thing on top part of your arm if you got one. Bout size of a nickel

If you were born before 1970, you got it. It was given in your non dominant shoulder or high on your leg and left a large scar that you can't miss.

I was born in 1968 and Dr. Bill didn't give me or my younger sister the smallpox vaccine but we got the other ones, Dr. Bill was one of them, old fashion doctors.

No idea. I just know they told me I had to get vaccinated before starting school. About 10 years later, there was a TB scare going around and we had to get tested for that.

Well, I’m as American as corn mash whiskey but my generation didn’t get the smallpox vaccine. I’m not sure when it was stopped. However, those of us who joined the military and were deployed to the Middle East were required to have it.

I believe, smallpox vaccines were given at the doctor's offices, during a regular checkup. They weren't given at school.
