Yes, very definitely. Not in the way that someone might mourn the loss of a family member or a friend. Nevertheless there is definitely a certain sense of loss.
While it may be somewhat unusual, I am an American who has a deep appreciation for the merits and benefits of democratic constitutional monarchy. Not for my own country, certainly. The USA lacks the socio-political culture that would make such a system work. However, any reading of history will show the benefits of democratic constitutional monarchy in that it places the state outside politics and therefore conduces to cultural moderation and a degree of temperance and appreciation for tradition that republics tend to lack.
In that context, it must be said, Queen Elizabeth II was Exhibit A in the case for monarchy. She exhibited a degree of restraint and an appreciation for tradition that often acted as a ballast for her country in turbulent times.
She was a steadying hand and a unifying force. As Britain went from the stability of the 1950s through the "Swinging 60s" and the era that marked the end of empire and then on to the galloping inflation of the 1970s and subsequent economic contraction, British politics swung back and forth. However, in the midst of all that remained the Queen. A rock in a sea of tumult.
As Walter Bagehot put it, it was the job of the monarch to "advise, guide and warn" the Prime Minister of the day. This she did, but always discreetly and diplomatically.
Yet Queen Elizabeth had a way of making her views known. When the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia visited the Queen at Balmoral, it was something of an issue in the UK that Saudi Arabia prohibits women from driving. So when the Crown Prince arrived, he got in a car to tour Balmoral. The Queen got in the driver's seat and proceeded to race around the estate.
The Crown Prince kept asking the translator - he did not speak English and obviously the Queen did not speak Arabic - to ask the Queen to slow down. Reportedly, the Queen pretended not to understand and kept driving. Point made!!
The Queen also, the dignity of her office notwithstanding, had a sense of humor. She famously staged a tea with Paddington Bear. She also played out a scene with Daniel Craig - the actor who plays James Bond.
Beyond that, the Queen was a friend to the United States. Meeting 14 US Presidents and, perhaps most famously, ordering the playing of the American national anthem at Buckingham Palace after the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
Suffice to say, there is more to be said, but space does not permit. However, suffice to say, as the old saw has it, "we will not see her like again." Her stoicism, her dedication to duty, her love of country and her deep faith. These things made Queen Elizabeth II the "rock on which modern Britain was built" and their loss is real and to be regretted. In that sense, HM Queen Elizabeth II will be deeply missed.
I'm not normally a sentimental guy but the Queen has been monarch for as long as I've been alive. Her face is on all the stamps. It's almost like losing a family member you never met but they sent you a card every Christmas for the last 100 years.
As for the Queen's personality I do think she was relatively decent, certainly a lot better than the rest of the family.
No I'm not. She was 96 years old and health was long reported to be fading. So how could this be considered unexpected? Its been in the news months ago plans were being made for her funeral. She passed peacefully not tragically. Honestly she lived a good long life. I don't see anything sad about this. She had an amazing run.

The big bang theory wasn't even a theory, much less TV show. Indeed, TV hadn't been invented. When she was born, the first transatlantic phonecall had yet to be placed. Nowadays, the crew of the ISS can read this very message within a second of its posting. At Elizabeth's birth, the universe was believed to be a few million light years across. We now know that's off by a factor of a thousand or so. Terms like DNA, quarks, radar, laser, neutrons, the internet, and nuclear weapons had yet to be uttered. At her birth, the fastest any human had traveled was a few hundred miles an hour and the highest anyone had been was to the tropopause. On her death, humans had been accelerated to escape velocity to visit the moon, balloons had skimmed the cloud tops of Venus, a probe beamed back pictures from Saturn's moon, Titan, and robot emissaries are trundling around the surface of Mars. But perhaps most terrifying, the destruction of the world was the prerogative of the gods. Upon her death, humans stand capable of destroying the planet as we know it in a single day.
I am not ashamed to admit that I am absolutely saddened, mortified and devastated by this huge and unimaginable loss... R I P Your Majesty.

I certainly don't mean to be disrespectful, but please refrain from using the word "unexpected", referencing her death. I mean she was 96! How much longer did anyone think she was going to live?
Her daughter-in-law, Diana... yes, her death was totally "unexpected". But not Queen Elizabeth.
Well, I did have an uncle who made it to 104, and a couple of my Dad's sisters made it to 100 and 101. I suppose according to your "expectations" it was, as you say, "unexpected".
Hardly unexpected - she was almost 100. The only question was who'd go first - Her or David Attenborough (they were born only weeks apart).
Obviously it's still a bit sad, especially after she made it though the whole Covid thing, but at least she got to see the Platinum Jubilee.
It's indeed a sad moment for the United Kingdom, its people, her family and friends. It's not good news of course but we knew she would die someday. She had a long life, and she did a lot. I hope I get to live until her age, it will be a privilege.

I actually saw her in person once (from a distance). She was a great lady, and a noble queen. It will be interesting to see how Charles III, her son, survives in her legacy.
Very sad, for most of us brits she has been queen since birth. Very strange to think we now have a king. Although expected its still shocking. She greeted the new prime minister just two days before her death so I hoped this would be a false alarm. May she RIP and long love the king
I'm sure it's sad. And they will elect a new queen I'm sure. But it's probably also a bit unsettling to not know what new laws and taxes etc the next ruler might impose. I'm sure it'll all be fine though

Not really unexpected as in the late nineties it has to be. It is also not unusual in a long marriage that the surviving spouse dies not so long afterwards.

I chuckled when reading unexpected. I mean, 96. It doesn't bother me that much, because it's not a person I'm close to, but I'm a bit sad. It's strange, losing the queen, because she's been there when I was born.

While I do not respect the monarchy as a governing structure, which right now the royal family has little if any actual power. I do respect her as a person and the things she accomplished. It's incredibly sad that she died.

No, England did a lot of horrible things during her reign such as colonialism and genocide
The British mostly quietly retreated from empire during the period. In the early part they tried to hang on in some cases, such as in Malaysian Emergency, the Mau Mau uprising in Kenya, the Suez Canal Crisis and much later the Falklands, but largely the UK knew it couldn't hang on anymore. World War 2 changed the world. The mantle of "super power" had passed on to the Americans, and they did things differently (another story entirely). Yes, there were atrocities, but during her reign, the empire was certainly in retreat.
