Apart from their ABC weapon capabilities, they degraded from a second-rate to a third-rate military. Just look at the amounts of battle tanks and personnel carriers they lost so far and the equipment they have to give these 300.000 new conscripts (aka cannon fodder).

Aircraft too. The Russian airforce no longer shows up, they have to rely on huge artillery barrages to hit anything. Meanwhile the Ukrainian military can see Russian postions and movements in real time and hit them accurately, as well as hear their communications.

Aircrafts so far they lost about ~25%, depending on the type. Tanks they lost >80%, which is are massive losses. They are dragging dinosaurs like the T-62 out of depots!

In the cold war arms race the Soviets had really fallen behind by about 10-20 years by the time they collapsed. Most of their stuff is 1980s designs so they are now about 40 years behind NATO in terms of up to date equipment. They have plenty of military personnel but few well trained regulars. Ukrainian troops are largely meeting them in the field on equal terms in regard to training but the individual Ukrainian soldier is better equipped and has body armour where as the Russian army has a severe shortage.

Russia's military is first rate but it is taking too long because Putin is being too nice and avoiding killing and destroying infrastructure, thereby given the USA time to arm and rearm Ukraine. Ultimately that will result if greater damage and loss of lives. Russia should have used overwhelming force and, regardless of the damage and loss lives, taken Ukraine within the first month.

China's Nukes are old and their ability to hit targets remains to be seen. They've no real power projection capability. Most of their military equipment is of Russian design. China has military conscription but are reducing the size of the military by 500,000 and are hoping to build a mote professional military closer to nato countries. The Chinese economy is dependent on resources from outside China in exchange for access to their cheap labour but the next wave of automation will make Chinese manpower unnecessary.
Japan would do OK against China provided they control the sea and don't invade, again Japan can proje t power.
