I know the gun lovers in the country hate the thought of handing over their weapons but citizens walking around with guns aren't stopping this! Other large countries with better gun laws don't see these kinds of assaults -- at least on this regular of a bases!

People aren't getting gunned down in record numbers by criminals in the UK and Australia, even with the black market. Not to mention guns on the black market are far far more expensive than legally acquired guns, thereby limiting access.
And do you know who criminals primarily target for violence? Other criminals. That's the same in other countries too. This isn't new.

@grega239 Because you’re overlooking the obvious. The black market is supplied by the legal market. Theft, straw purchases and illegal private sales account for most of it. If we rounded up all privately owned firearms, the black market would largely dry up, which is what you see in other countries (although ghost guns may change that in the future) I’m not advocating that we do that. I’m a gun owner myself but I am aware that our right to bear arms means that guns will always end up in criminal hands. Gun related deaths will always be the price of that freedom.

I don't believe our country is anywhere near being "beyond saved." The U. S. is considered one of the greatest countries in all the world and one of histories greatest civilizations for a reason. There are areas we need to work on; removing certain types of firearms happens to be one of them. There is absolutely no question that, at some point, legislation to do so will happen. The status quo is blatantly not working. So many mass shooting on such a regular bases leaves little doubt. The question only becomes when.

We can do all the gun legislation we want & unfortunately there still will be shootings. The only thing gun control & gun legislation will do is take guns out of regular people’s hands but it won’t take guns off of criminal or gang hands. Unfortunately you can still buy a gun on the streets & with legislation it will just make it harder to buy one in a store.

Removing certain forms of firearms is not a simple, let alone, a single-faceted solution. Other forms of assistance should still be in place but making these weapons much harder to get ahold of needs to take place. There's little doubt that it ultimately will; the hold question becomes when. These mass shooting are almost taking place far too frequently to not address. At some point, even the ultra right, conservative side will be forced to compromise with such a solution.

If you want effective, common sense "gun control" in the United States, then form a commission consisting of the National Rifle Association, The Second Amendment Foundation, Jews for the Preservation of Firearms Ownership, Gun Owners of America, National Association for Gun Rights, & the Constitutional Rights PAC, along with one member from each political party (Democrat, Republican, Libertarian, Tea Party, etc.) to draft the legislation needed to curtail gun violence and Congress to pass it without changes or amendments.

Even with all that, shootings will still be an issue because of gang-on-gang violence which accounts for at least 85-90% of the deaths which the liberals and mass media never mentions. What is also never mentioned by the same two groups is the 2 million+ times a gun stopped crime.

And as the charming young lady from Ireland pointed out, the "mass shootings" are caused by folks with some type of mental disorder. That is where the major concentration of effort is needed. Not punishing law-biding citizens over a US Constitutional right which begs the question: how is "the right of the people" in the 2nd Amendment any different than "the right of the people" in the 1st or 4th Amendments?
