Why don't US people/politicians amend gun laws and ban arms sold in public amid countless mass shootings every year?

Strict gun laws are there in Europe, Asia, and Australia. Apart from very few countries, the police aren't taking over democratic freedom. If there's a ban on public gun sales or a long background check, even criminals will find it hard to get arms. If you are an ordinary citizen with a gun, you still can't defend yourself much against a criminal group.

More people are getting killed by regular depressed people with guns than criminals/police.

Why do you need decade-long political talk and still can't do anything?

I am not going to the republican vs democrat viewpoint debate. It's clearly a mass problem that everyone suffers.

One of the arguments that Republicans make is that it's the fault of Democrats trying to restrict citizens from guns and they can't defend themselves. So what do you want? People a just shooting at each other regularly? either for defense or offense? The majority of victims are children or casual mall goers, can they carry and fire guns?

To put it bluntly, Americans as a group has a common misconception, that guns equals safety.

More specifically, Americans are taught to be fairly independent. If they have a problem then they look to themselves to resolve it. This leads to a bunch of stupid decisions such as their obsession with buying large pick-up trucks or whatever with the idea being if they ever move or need to haul something then they think they have the capability themselves.

But this also manifests in less funny ways too. Specifically, in the need to defend themselves. Americans do not trust outside factors like the police or whatever, they expect to do this themselves in some kind of isolated incident. To build their confidence that they can defend themselves they therefore desire the right "tool" for the job. A gun.

With a gun in their hands, and a no small cup of unearned confidence from watching one too many Hollywood movies or whatever, they feel that they can defend themselves and that they are safe. To a smaller degree this is also extrapolated to the community as a whole where they think that if they can defend themselves with a gun then others can as well which means everyone would be safe.

Of course this is total bullshit, and in fact creates a negative feedback loop. The American wants to feel safe so they get a gun. The gun statistically makes them less safe, so the American becomes afraid and wants to feel safe so they get a gun. Repeat infinitum.

I literally hear people shooting guns right next door to my house several times a week. Everyone around here owns guns. People know how to use them responsibly and are skilled marksmen. The gun owners around me are more likely to volunteer their time and energy to help me in my life weather it is working on a project on my property or by giving me free food in charity. In contrast, you choose to live around communist criminals that slaughter your neighbors and as a result you live in fear. We live in different cultures.

Weird that Israel relaxed its gun laws on citizens once Hamas started invading. It's almost like an armed citizenry is less likely to be invaded.
