Very complicated situation with a lot of nuance. Overall, I disagree with the way Israel handles the Gaza Strip situation, and I’m not a fan of the Netenyahu regime. If you told me Hamas were “freedom fighters”, I could by that, but I saw some video of their initial attack, and once there’s rape involved, you’ve lost me. What part of the game is that? I’d say I retrospectively side with America when they went after the Nazis back in the 1940s in WW2, but if I heard our guys were raping German women, even Nazi women, I would unequivocally condemn that while still remaining supportive of the true goal of the mission.

I think a lot of people have a difficult time with supporting a movement but condemning the way it’s gone about. Like they’ve picked a side, so their support can’t waver, and if their guys did it, it must have been justifiable because the greater cause is worthy. You had the “BLM” protests a few years back here in America. I agree with the general cause of anti-police brutality largely targeting black folks, I’ve even got a little room for rioting, people were rightfully angry. But when you start burning buildings and looting stores, that’s a black eye on the otherwise noble cause. January 6th is a little different because we’re gradually getting true confirmation that there was no election interference, and as dumb as I may think someone may have to be to take Donald Trump at his word on just about anything, if you genuinely did believe it and let’s even say hypothetically that there HAD been interference, then that would’ve been understandable reason for protest. When you start breaching the Capitol, now YOU’RE the asshole. But the point is, one should be able to validly support a cause without falling into these assumed roles of “we’re the good guys and they’re the bad guys, so nothing we do to combat them could possibly be wrong.”

It’s also a special situation where both groups have historically suffered persecution, Israel is obviously a fairly strong nation but Jews have had a rough go on Earth overall. So it’s not as easy to pick a side, and frankly, maybe we’re fucking up thinking that a side has to be taken. I’m on the side of “don’t go blowing each other up over religiously-based territorial bullshit.”

My answer is an emphatic "Yes".

Why?

Because you don't negotiate with cancer. You wipe it out before it wipes you out.

The goal of Hamas and other militant Muslim organizations is to wipe out Israel. And the people of Gaza are rather complicit toward Hamas which effectively ruled Gaza since October 2016. Realizing what Hamas was, the people of Gaza have had 7 years to remove Hamas from power so as not to provoke Israel. Instead, nothing happened and then Hamas took action this month. (*)

Israel needs to protect its existence and its people and since the Gazans weren't doing what was necessary - remove Hamas - Israel is going to do it for them... Wipe out the cancer once and for all. Then maybe no one - Gazan Palestinian or Israeli would have to die ever again in that part of the world.

There comes a point in the history of a nation in which the people are responsible for the governments they have.

The Gazan Palestinian people let Hamas take over and rule them. They let that happen and should have known what Hamas was likely to do. Patriotism is one thing, but being smart and knowing when to pick and choose your battles is something else. By letting Hamas remain in charge in Gaza and eventually do what they did, the Gaza Palestinian people gave implicit approval. Now, they are paying the price for their lack of self-responsibility.

They should be thankful; there will still be a Gaza when this is all done.

There’s a massive massive difference between storming civilian areas and moving down families on purpose, and warning people to get before dropping bombs and when the people refuse or Hamas uses them as shields, dropping the bombs.

the choice is to protect Israeli kids or Palestinian kids. The Israeli government is responsible for Israeli kids. Hamas is sacrificing Palestinian kids on purpose by their own confession

Wars are never okay, if you are forced to fight, than fight the ones who are fighting you and leave the innocent people and babies alone...

I know that this is a war and it's nearly impossible to have zero innocent casualties but don't go to bomb shelters where you know that only kids and innocent people are there, you catch an innocent civilian, don't execute them just for fun or revenge because someone from their side have decided to fight you while they are innocent from the others acts!

i think this war is just the continuation of centuries of conflict. it's a shame because as far as i've ever read/heard most Palestinian and Israeli civilians would prefer a peaceful resolution and are ok with share of the land. sadly the political and military powers on both sides see their civilians as disposable in an effort to assert an ideological goal

How about this- why don't you make Hamas surrender? It is part of Hamas's strategy to get as many people killed as possible. Note also that among the 6000 are a whole lot of Hamas fighters. Surely it's OK to kill them, right?

Hamas is also known to kill Gazan civilians. But I don't see any complaints from you about that or Hamas killing Israeli civilians.
