Timberlake was arrested in Sag Harbor in June after police said he left the bar at The American Hotel shortly after midnight, drove down Main Street in his 2025 BMW and failed to stop at a stop sign and stay in his lane. Police also said Timberlake failed a field sobriety test and refused a breathalyzer test several times, saying “No, I’m not doing a chemical test.”

This was not that...I found myself in a position where I could have made a different decision, but I’ve had some time to reflect on that,” he continued, later adding, “What I’d like to say to everyone watching and listening, even if you’ve had one drink, don’t get behind the wheel of a car. There are so many alternatives – call a friend, take an Uber, there are many travel apps, take a taxi. This is a mistake that I made, but I’m hoping that whoever is watching and listening right now can learn from this mistake. I know that I certainly have.” (CNN)

He didn't just receive community service. He did get 25 hours of community service but he also has to issue a public safety announcement. He will also pay a fine of $500 and have his driver’s license suspended in New York State for 90 days starting Friday. Is it lenient? Yes! However, if Justin Timberlake were to charge his regular rate to make a 30 second commercial, he would receiver a hell of a lot more than anyone has ever paid in the way of fines for getting a DUI! So in a weird and lenient way, he's probably paying a much greater fine than anyone else would’ve. but we live in a two-tiered justice system where the wealthy, the elite, and the celebrities, all operate under a different set of rules than the rest of the people! Even when caught breaking those rules, their punishment is way less than anyone else would receive!

Slap on the wrist like most drunks get. Everyone should get harsher punishments for being behind the wheel drunk. More than $500 for a fine for sure. Your license needs to be suspended for 6-12 months (yes, even for a first offense). If you're caught again, you need to be mailed and lose your license permanently. This is not something to play around with. Drinking while drunk/under the influence is very serious. Same with other forms of distracted driving like being on your phone. There needs to be harsher punishments for that as well.

Not enough.  Police said Timberlake failed a field sobriety test and refused a breathalyzer test several times, saying “No, I’m not doing a chemical test.” He should have his license revoked, pay a massive fine, a designated time in jail, speak about the dangers of drunk driving in public events & visit rehab centers & do everything possible to be write the wrongs into rights even via TV Ads. This isn’t justice, community service is nothing! Big celebrities, corporate entities, world leaders, and more don’t get to walk away with a slap on the wrist. Law & Order Matters!

That's the standard punishment in CA, so yeah, it's enough. As far as the system goes, I think it's fair for first time offenders. Some counties do a mandatory 2 days even for first offenses though. That's also fair. As long as it's not anything excessive, or nothing at all. Tbh, the pain in the ass of dealing with the license suspension, mandatory rehab (it's outpatient counseling) and the big fine, is a pretty good deterrent. And nothing stops true alcoholics except a bullet, so there's no sense with extreme punishment for the rest of the state.

Why is this news? There are thousands of DWI people that plead out every day. Do you post about them? Why should JT be any different then the others? Just because he is famous, he should get lighter? or harsher? penalties?

I don't know the specifics. Was anyone hurt? Has he had any DWI's previously? how much over was he?

When I got married, my then wife worked for a drunk. But he was the absolute best lawyer you wanted if you got busted for DWI. He knew the law inside and out. He got people off, no jail, just fine, when they had 3 DWI's on their record. It was scary that this guy was out there.

So probably he got just what was appropriate for his situation.

Usually you have a suspended licence for a time (i. e. 1 year), you have to go to traffic school, and you have to do a certain amount of hours of community service. You are allowed to refuse a breathalyzer test, but the officer determines you are under the influence from other evidence like erratic driving, the smell of alcohol on your breath, and a failed field sobriety test you still get arrested for DUI/DWI. Nothing is out of the ordinary for a first time offence for a DUI/DWI. From your story he didn't hit anyone or damage any property yet. He cooperated with the police and he didn't flee from the police or resist arrest.

I think it is I know some people will disagree with me and that’s fine. Look the court systems are backed up with more serious offenses (not that DWI isn’t) I’m all against giving pleas for major felonies for sure.

I think community service is fine and it’s a case by case basis. For some people it’s enough for them to learn their lesson for people who keep getting arrested for it that’s another story.

Hell, you have people out here who have multiple DUIs, have stolen vehicles, gotten their license suspended and yet they can still roam free and are driving on the road as we speak.
