Actually it's the fifth AI that China has developed.

Alibaba, Tencent and others already have theirs - but they are closed sourced like OpenAI, Gemini etc.

What makes Deepseek special is that it's opensource and does not rely on overpriced Nvidia hardware to run. Meaning it misses out American reliance altogether.

Facebooks Ollama is opensource too, but it's not very good and requires hefty hardware to run right.

It makes a mockery of Elon's bullshit of America "requiring" over $600 billion in investment to develop AI. Where a couple of Chinese students managed to surpass the best American AI with an $8 million budget.

Makes you wonder who pocketed all that money in the American AI hype...

It's the exact same thing that happens any time the U. S. develops a product, China comes along with a a cheaper knockoff.
