America is so jealous now.
People need to understand that ChatGPT and such is not actually AI. Its a math equation with hundreds of billions of parameters used to statistically predict what word comes after another word. Making a bigger equation to more accurately statistically predict the word is not really breakthrough in AI that we are looking for.
It is still a big part of AI and machine learning. If it is not AI, then what is it? Just a software?
Even calling it a software is actually being generous. It is not even strictly learning, that was done when the program was developed. Once you use it the machine no longer learns. You are simply using a "snapshot" of the state it was when they distributed it.
The most accurate description of these types of AI's is probably just to call them a maths equation.. because that is what they are doing. Its just incredibly long and complicated.
Then what is AI? And real AI still doesn't exist then? Also these magic things can do everything now, generate images, music, videos, codes, chatting with you teaching you... Much smarter than humans
Well, as you might imagine trying to define what an AI is and especially in the context of human intelligence it gets really complicated real fast.
The holy grail of AI development is what we call a "General AI" which basically means the AI can solve problems in a similar versatile manner to a human. AI's like ChatGPT and such are what we call a "Narrow AI". They focus on doing a single task really well but probably can't do anything else.
"Modern AI's" tend to cheat a bit here. Instead of actually having a "General AI" that can solve any problem they are presented, they instead have many "Narrow AI's" that are each specialized on one thing. The AI attempts to choose the "Narrow AI" inside itself that gives the best result for any given problem.
So the AI's that generate images, music, videos, codes, chatting etc.. are all a collection of separate AI's that cooperate to produce something.
That's just people's perception of what AI is, and not what it actually is, though.
It does, it just forgets it after the cache is cleared.
@NimbleOcelot No it does not. That "Cache" you are talking about is not the memory of the AI. It is a hidden additional prompt that is included in every message you put to the AI to give it context. The AI itself has no memory of anything you say.
It does. You can make it recall something you've said prior. Also, most of the AI is done before it talks to you anyway. They also use this for making AI characters in games with a certain personality type. It's AI, even if it's stupid AI.
@NimbleOcelot Your entire conversation with the AI is included in every new prompt you give it. That is how they maintain the "Memory". It does not learn.
That's literally learning... Dumb AI is still AI. How do you think learning happens? Even humans only learn by maintaining a memory.
@NimbleOcelot That is not learning. If I do 1+1=2 and then carry the 2 and do 1+1+2=4 then that is not learning but that is exactly what they are doing with ChatGPT and similar
What do you think learning is? All learning is is remembering information.
@NimbleOcelot AI must be able to change or improve through its experiences. ChatGPT does neither, it only changes YOUR input to give a better output.
As I said, most of the learning isn't actually from talking to you, it's from their testing and stuff prior to that. Anyway, all that matters to make it AI is that it learns, and it does that, simply put. What you are wanting is something past that, which is AI with critical thinking. I personally think this should get its own name, so that people stop equating the two.
@NimbleOcelot None of the learning is talking to you. That is done somewhere else. What you get and interact with is a "snapshot" of the actual AI if you want to call it that.
It still learns, just not very much. An ant still learns, even if it's stupid by human standards.
@NimbleOcelot No, it does not learn at all. It is a completely static program. The only thing you are changing is your input and you can't get anything out of it that was not already there.
What is learning. The definition.
@NimbleOcelot Lets simplify it then. Learning is reacting. The AI does not react to you in any way, shape or form.
It does react, as it responds based on your input. I'd also argue that reacting is not learning, since a spring reacts to pressure, and no one would say a spring learns.
@NimbleOcelot The way the AI is reacting to you is like opening a page in a book. Just because there are text there does not mean it was meant for you.
I'd say it's more like a search algorithm, which is also considered machine learning. Either way, it's reacting, so if that's your definition, it still falls into it. Either way though, it has a set definition that includes even normal, everyday things that aren't called AI by the general populace. But this is why I'd prefer if there was a new name to describe what you see as AI, because AI is too encompassing, and needs to have a more defined term for more "intelligent" versions of it
@NimbleOcelot Lets put it like this then. A calculator is not an AI even if you can calculate an answer based on your input.
It's a good thing. I feel like any new tech bubble should burst as soon as possible and come back to reality.
Arrogance is false confidence. I'm not a AI expert so it's difficult for me to determine who is arrogant here.
I think term AI is abused here, because it's not a learning capable neural network just a x86_64 program that checks a lot of parameter before it answers with generic phrases from a predefined database.
China’s plan is to subsidise commercial products like AI & Electric cars to destroy all foreign competitors and then dominate the market charging what they want.

definitely not "urpass". it's like everything from china an obviously cheap clone. but yeah. it definitely upset the market.
What is there to think? America wants to be best they need to be best. This proves they are not best.
Yeah but it is very censored. It won’t talk about topics relating to Chinese government policy or the Tiananmen Square massacre.
Good , now Skynet will take over the country and destroy everything over there
They probably stole Chat GPT and copied it and made some improvements.
ChatGPT is made by chinese people too. Not americans
Chat GPT is basically stealing Google data and making an algorhytm on it. And who do you think made Chat GPT? Americans?
not buying the news...
No one, other than you it seems, gives a shit.
Well, the whole world in every forum and news, channels, social media and YouTube are talking about this
ChatGPT and open AI the same thing.
Everything made is china is phony
I personally don't care.
