Are you often impressed by the skills of pilots and their startling flying machines (jet engine aircraft)?

I was watching a large aircraft take off minutes ago in this late night rain to heavy rain ☔

Very impressive hearing the jet's engines, whether an old freighter, new freighter or even a passenger plane. I could even see through the clouds its prominent front light/lights 🕯️ like a lighthouse tower of old.

It climbed really well, made a terrific sound, and then flew further away. A successful take off. It really was impressive, the whine.

In light of recent events, especially I really do admire the skills of pilots and their flying machines. Especially you know, how some pilots like sea captains, who've longed used their same vessel or same make/model on the daily or time and time again - they really know what their machines can handle, can perform, conditions, and their own courageous spirit and level-headed emotion 🎚️

No, I am not at all impressed by the skills of pilots. I come from a family of airmen and have had numerous occasions in the past to fly on the "cockpit jump seat" and witness the pilots at work.

Nowadays, everything is automated and pilots seldom have to manipulate the controls unless they want to perform a manual take-off or landing. Everything is preset in their computers.

The pilot's job today is a press button job and not much more. Unless of course something goes wrong, pilots have to override the autopilot and handle the aircraft the old traditional "seat of the pants" way.

99.9% of the time everything goes smoothly and you don't want to know what can go wrong in the cockpit. You would never want to fly anymore if you only knew.

no. most people can get their pilots license. it's really not a big deal. it's more about logging flight hours before they can trust you with people's lives. even still, the plane usually flies itself.

i'm impressed how we got here, but it's logical.
