Not since I was a kid, and for me, it was more about the building than the flying. As a child in the '60s, my dad had always built scale balsa wood models from scratch, making his own plans by scaling up the 3-view drawings in books, and powering them with tiny Cox or Jetex engines. He taught me how to build them the same way (no foam or other modern materials).
Its something I've thought about getting into again, now that the electronics are so ridiculously cheap and capable - I like the idea of an ultra long range fixed-wing FPV drone, that I could fly along the coast, recording video etc.
