1 yPersonally, i don’t think anything that doesn’t demand above average physical prowess to be a sport. For my part, operating RC toys doesn’t qualify. If that’s a sport, then so should playing video games be. It’s a near identical skill set.

I think if chess is considered a sport, so should flying RC helicopters and gaming. There's a debate to be had tho
- 1 y
Chess is definitely not a sport by any stretch of the imagination. It’s a game.
- 1 y
The debate gets interesting for games like billiards and bowling, in which particular skills are required but not meaningful athleticism. Fat drunks can be world class champions at bowling, billiards and darts. Some people consider them sports. I call them bar games.
- 1 y
A lot of people recognize chess a sport because of it's physical exertion, scoring points, and it's competitive.
- 1 y
Depends how you define sports tho
- 1 y
I strongly disagree. Then board games are sports? Card games are sports? Nonsense. If you want to be the best gamer in the world, good on you. But comparing the preparation for any game to that of sports in which people routinely get hurt in preparation AND in competition is malarkey. You may as well be saying making paper airplanes is the same as training for the air force.
- 1 y
The main thing that makes something a sport (in my opinion) is whether there is a commercial demand for watching high levels experts play the game. I don't know anyone who would want to watch people play Uno.
- 1 y
So acting is a sport? People pay billions of dollars every year to watch high level actors perform on stage and screen. Standup comedy? Pornography?
I just can’t agree. If there’s no athleticism required, it’s not a sport. Actually porn is a bad example. Some of that does require some athleticism. - 1 y
Acting does require some athleticism. Actors need to be in good physical shape to handle the weight of costumes and the heat from stage lights, and they may need to work long hours without getting tired. They have to be at least somewhat physical fit to meet the demands of their job.
- 1 y
Physically fit
- 1 y
Hahahaha! Accepted.
What about sports that are physically and mentally demanding but have little to no audience? Most endurance sports have tiny markets. Things like triathlons, marathons and bicycle racing are widely thought to only be watched by other athletes and wannabes. There’s no commercial demand. What about mountain climbing? There are no points and very little commercial value, but it’s challenging and dangerous, and in some ways competitive. - 1 y
🤔... you might have got me there, BUT I am tired, lol...
- 1 y
I tried to go to bed an hour ago! You got me thinking! Ell oh ell!
- 1 y
Let's call a truce for now, lol.

Deal!

To me a sport requires skill, focus and endurance of some kind. Without the endurance aspect it's just a hobby.
To make it a sport I would say that it needs to have a certain level of difficulty that not everyone off the street can do it with a little practice and maybe require some focus over an extended length of time.
11 Reply- 1 y
I've seen people do some pretty crazy stunts that doesn't look easy lol
1 yA hobby not a sport. Most all sports have physical competition involved.

u 1 yDepends on your definition of sport. To me, a sport is a competition in which your performance is tied to physical abilities other than just endurance, so, to me, RC copter is not a sport.

And it's still a hobby.
What about riding a bike? That's a hobby. Stick other bikes together and you've got a sport.
- 1 y
People race motorcycles... and bicycles.
- 1 y
And what about downhill mountain biking. Where did I put that link..
m.youtube.com/watch?v=1OG1KEjJu48#bottom-sheet You can't race RC Helicopters?
- 1 y
Get her Tommy
- 1 y
Sure, but only moving your thumbs and only sweating if standing in direct summer sunshine (or heavy winter clothes) does not make it a sport.
- 1 y
Back up Derp
:O That's not a sport, its a suicide mission!
- 1 y
🤣 Watched the clip?
I watched a loop di loop as he was on his way down.. hence the suicide mission.. that's plain nuts..
BUT, even though you're moving your arms and legs, body shape.. as opposed to your thumbs.. you still have to use your mind for both, or you'll crash- 1 y
Yes. Still looks a blast though. 😎
But I don't think that is enough to make it a sport. It's something that describes a hobby. I'm saving that clip to watch back on the big telly later.. going to enjoy that..
Sport = activity requiring skill or physical prowess and often of a competitive nature,
Could you fly a RC Helicopter in a race? I couldn't because it takes a SKILL I do not possess- 1 y
I binged the entire thing this afternoon. It was good. (Have an addiction to the red bull shows this week)
I could take Derp in a race. Hobbies require skill.. buff thumbs alone wouldn't make me an athlete.

112 ReplyHow does this sound.. A hobby if you're flying it yourself, but a sport if you're racing it against others?
- 1 y
I guess that's fair. They have contests where they do cool stunts.
- 1 y
@dustybiker2 doesn't consider it a sport 💩
Just because she's adorable, it doesn't mean we aren't allowed to disagree with her.
- 1 y
Agreed lol
- 1 y
Pfft
@dustybiker2 Oh look who's awake :P
- 1 y
Only for moments. Just pealing the gear off and noticed Derp finally came around to asking the question.
@dustybiker2 It is a good one..
- 1 y
Yes. lol It's difficult, but not.
The more I think about it the more I subscribe to the notion, it should be considered as both a hobby AND a sport, if they match their skills up against other people!
- 1 y
Eh, can't do it myself. Pilots, yes. RC planes.. no.
Hobby lol unless it has races
12 Reply- 1 y
I'm going to send you a video later. You'll agree that it's a sport after you watch it lol
Hobby? Yes. Sport? Don't think so.
