With the US‑Iran ceasefire over, what happens to oil and gas prices now?

S. has reinstated strict sanctions on Iranian oil exports and resumed military strikes in the region. Safe to assume that in addition to renewed tensions, we will again see jumps in oil prices and even higher gas prices (that never recovered to begin with). #sameoldsong&dance

Right now, oil and gas prices are subsidised (socialism anyone?) by government reserves. There are only around 3 weeks worth left.

So assume Trump is going to throw everything, in the hope to win.

You are generally right about one thing, and wrong on the others.
1. The ceasefire is pointless, as are negotiations. It's clear it's largely a tactic to calm down things until after midterms. I have predicted consistently that the war will resume, and that regime change will be the only outcome.

2. Subsidizing is not "socialism" in itself. Socialism requires a state or collective ownership over production. Subsidies are simply credits supplied by governments or private individuals. Attempting to claim that any government steps to fix market failures as socialism is a failure of understanding. Its like arguing that fire departments are socialist. If this was the case, all nationS would be socialist. The we would no longer need any arguments on capitalist vs socialism. The issue in western nations is how much government control is necessary in our daily lives.

3. The 3 week claim is a misunderstanding from you. It isn't that the US will run out of oil (it even produces most of its own, and what it imports comes largely from Canada and Latin America), but it's used to influence price spikes, but continues to be replenished. The issue would not be that the US runs out, but that prices inevitably increase.

@Kelly6 this I a very uneducated view for someone from Spain? Was it not Spain, who at the height of their power meddle in the affairs of many countries, colonized them, and eventually fought a war with the US during a Era it lost its Empire? Why expect the US to be isolationist, when no major power in history ever was? Let us also not forget it was Europe that forced the US out of its isolationist policies.

In regards to this conflict, Iran has been the source of over 1,000 American deaths, has attacked US facilities and figures throughout the world nonstop for nearly 5 decades. It crippled shopping multiple times among many other things. There is a long list.

Let us also not forget that the US dominates many industries, such as those in technology. You know this, but your anti American biases get in the way of common sense.

It funded, organized, and supported groups like Hezbollah, PLO, Hamas, Houthis etc. It has tendrils physically in Syria, Lebanon, Iraq, Yemen, Afghanistan, and many others.

Was it not the UK, that enforced its will on Iran in the 1950s, that led to the Mossadegh coup..

Even during the period of 2024 to 2025, Iran launched over 180 attacks on the US. www.history.com/.../7-historical-fights-over-strait-of-hormuz as you can see Iran has attacked shipping that region multiple times. It also ignore the Houthis, who are funded by Iran, and are notorious for attacking shipping.
