Do guys prefer a girl to dress provocatively or more conservatively?

Question

I can never figure out what guys prefer!  I know I dress in a very becoming manner; I look classy, not trashy, but people often tell me that I'm overdressed for what they may consider an informal occasion.  I like to dress flirty I guess and enjoy the attention it gets me, but I can't tell whether or not guys like to see a very well put together girl or prefer to see a girl relaxed and dressed casually?   And if so, does that mean a girl should cover up?

Okay, this should be obvious; there is a time & place for everything!   So don't wear the micro mini to church!  And don't go clubbing dressed like the church lady!  Simple enough?  That said, all humanity likes to be visually inspired and inspiring.  Clothes say something about who you choose to be; your imagination, your playfulness, your self image... so it's good to be truthful.  As for guys, there is nothing worse than being out with a girl who's pretending to be hot, but suddenly feels over exposed.  If you decided to wear it, then own it; stop tugging at it,  because your ruining the effect!  If you want a professional guy to notice you, dress professionally!  If you want a blue collar guy to notice you, dress blue collar.  Finally, most guys want some assurance the girl he's out with has a healthy libido... because the girl he chooses says something about him too!  There's this assumption;  if a guy is out with a really sexy girl, he must somehow be her equal and is presumed to be sexy too!  Of course the presumption can go negative too.  No guy wants that!  Now, there are many way to show a healthy libido... attitude,  friendliness, or showing off your best body part.  Got amazing legs... use them to your advantage!  Amazing rack, I assure you, as a guy I want it on display!  After all, you want to be seen getting out of my $115k Mercedes right?  You dream of showing off that 3 karat diamond ring, right?  Well, it's the same thing!  Any guy who doesn't feel comfortable with you showing off for him is trying to tell you something... like how insecure he is, or that you're way out of his looser league!  So testing these waters is an essential part of courtship... It helps assure a sexual compatibility.  So dress to who YOU are... there is no right and wrong!  Now I know there are women who hate any other woman who they fear looks sexier than them; so the question is, are you going to let their hate imprison you?  That's why it's been said, "if you got it, flaunt it!"

I would say that right dead center between provocative and conservative gets my attention the best. Enough to show that you're a sensual being, but modest enough to show that there's more to you than just sexuality.

yes. the first girl response. dress in what you are comfortable in. if you feel sexy in a turtle neck and jeans, rock it out! guys notice confidence and natural beauty. If you look happy, fun, interesting, and beautiful, you will be approachable and sexy no matter what you wear. I am a girl that prides herself on intelligence, not my legs/ass/boobs. I often find that the guys that I actually would want to get to know find me sexiest in my element: messy hair, scarf, office-looking shirt, jeans, glasses, and heals. I'm not dressing to impress, but to make ME happy. but hey, not all guys are the same.

Ideally you want a mix of both provocative and modest. The general rule is (I don't know HOW I know this as a straight man), if you're going to show off one area heavily (by that I mean the "sexual" areas, like chest, butt, or legs, not arms), cover the rest up. Have a plunging neckline that totally makes your cleavage look awesome? Don't wear a super-short miniskirt. You wanna show off those legs a little more than usual? Then keep everything else (more or less) as background. Keep the attention on one area and you will come off super-sexy and classy at the same time.

Girls have different styles and different tastes. A girls appeal has a lot to do with her personality. I've seen women in slouchy cloths that blew me away different looks fit different personalitys. The only time I dress down is if I'm doing physical labor. Some girls can be pretty and dress really sexy but their ass holes or their not very bright and it just spoils it than the guys personality comes into play a lot to a guy who is an ass hole him self or not very bright might go crazy for those girls.

What we like to SEE is not necessarily what we would approach. Provocative may get you looks, and the guys will sure appreciate the visuals, but they won't approach you.

Personally I would sooner approach a girl who was dressed relaxed and casually than one dressed provocatively, and being overdressed for the occasion is ALWAYS a big "steer clear" sign for me.

Dressing up is always nice. It depends a lot on the situation. If it's a dinner out, then somewhere between classy and trashy is nice, or out with a bunch of friends, but if it's with his family then totally classy.

Trashiest situations to classiest situations.

I want a girl to dress semi-provocative, but I want the attire to be casual.  A t-shirt with a band logo or something like that.  I like it more if it's one with something witty on it.  Examples would be the shirts sold on college t-shirt sites (Busted Tees, 80s Tees, Thinkgeek, etc.)   It shows me the girl is fun to be around.

Whatever is good for the occasion.  If you dress provocatively, you will attract a lot of guys, but maybe not the guys you are looking for (or maybe so, idk).  I always like girls to dress nicely, but if it is too dressy for the occasion it will look like you're trying to hard.

But I would say dressing provocative is more important for uglier girls, and when HOT HOT HOT girls like you do it, welll... its just showing off. you should dress conservatively...a girl as attractive as you doesn't need to show skin...The only reason why a lot of girls dress provocatively is because they are not as attractive and have to get noticed in some other way.

For me the rules is typically: Classy before Trashy. I do however love when women fall somewhere in the middle, close enough to Classy to show sophistication but close enough to Trashy to be a delightful tease. There is nothing with dressing in a more relaxed fashion, given the context of a situation. This does not necessarily mean one should cover up, but don't forget there are plenty ways to appear desirable without showing of every other inch of skin.

A general scale would be:
Prudish, Delicate, Conservative, Classy, Sophisticated, Provocative, Hot, Flirty, Sexy, Trashy, Slutty, and Nasty

The scale is not applicable to every situation

Before you were born, it was "if you got it, flaunt it"    If you are comfortable in dresses and look sharp... you need to change where you are going, not what you are wearing.  It is so rare these days to see a woman in a dress, I say dress sharp and enjoy it.  If you want someone casual, that will be casual, then dress casual.
