Well there are plenty of reasons. Some people are raised with bad eating habits which gives them an unhealthy metabolism which makes your body not burn energy but store it. There are health issues which make people gain weight and issues with losing weight making it close to impossible because there body is not working correctly. There are genetics. Mental issues. I have seen women be thin there whole life the go through pregnancy and get a hormonal imbalance which makes it very very hard to lose weight. Not to mention the older you get the harder it is to lose weight. Men are biologically programmed to have higher amounts of lean body mass, or muscle, than women. Lean body mass is the key factor that determines the rate of one's metabolism, the body's calorie-burning system. Since men have more muscle, their metabolisms are higher, and they burn more calories even when they're resting, so the final result is a more rapid weight loss. there are a lot of things that determine someones weight yes without a medical issue everyone is capable of losing weight BUT some people have to work a lot harder at it than others

I don't believe anyone just "lets" themselves go...as if anyone just thinks "gee I don't mind the idea of being fat, I'm going to eat a pie today" sure, of course it comes down to bad decisions, but I think people are wired differently, and its a lot harder for some people to stay slim than others. some people get a lot more pleasure out of food than others, maybe it releases more happy chemicals I don't know but right now I'm a nanny for three year old twins and even though they ve been raised equally you can already see that they re motivated by completely different things, one is always squirming at the table, and plays with her food, and doesn't really care about what she s eating as long as she can get up soon. the other sometimes eats almost twice the portion od her sister, and it obviously gives her a lot of happiness. and I know in the future that kid is going to have a much harder time staying slim than her twin.
i let myself go because I was depressed. I had a very close family member die suddenly and you know what, exercising and making sure my clothes were super cute and my hair was flawless wasn't as big of a priority anymore. I ate comfort food. so yeah after I ended up gaining all that weight it was harder to lose it because it seemed like my hormones changed. I am getting back to where I used to be though but its not easy. that's why I don't judge people on first site because you never know what someone is going through.
I know what you mean. I started working out when I was in High School and I still weigh the same, look the same etc whereas most of the "hot girls" I lusted after have gotten fat as hell and the jock guys look like they are 40+ years old...
I think it's partly genetic and partly because all the pressure to stay fit/be skinny fades as you age.
Because they have nothing positive in their lives that can move them forward.

Sometimes people have depression issues, low self esteem etc. This brings about the feeling of hopelessness which in turn makes a person not take care of themselves. It could even be life threatening obesity, but food addiction, depression etc causes them to not care. And then you have people who just simply don't care. I would say in that situation one is lacking self love if they just let themselves go.Part of loving yourself is taking care of yourself internally and externally.
I gain weight when I am depressed. But I also just get really busy. I've gained weight since I started college even though I am eating 10 times healthier than I did at home and I'm about the same active wise. But I am so busy studying and working, it just has been slowly happening.
There's a multitude of reasons. Stress, depression, lack of time, or just pure laziness.
they get lazy or busy
