Have you ever been dumped for someone “ugly”? How did it make you feel? How did you get over it?

When after only a few weeks from our break up my ex informed me he was dating someone new I understood I had been dumped for the new girlfriend.

I get told im very pretty but I have a low self esteem and my first thought was that I wasn’t pretty enough for him and that was he reason he had dumped me, as everything else was going so well.

There was a pretty girl who lately had been interacting with him on fb: I told myself it must have been her and resigned myself to having been dumped for someone prettier because I wasn’t enough.

Than i discovered who he was dating. I wouldn’t call her unattractive, but real “ugly”, as much as I know that it’s mean and not nice. I really think she is.

I can't get over it, I would have accepted the opposite, being dumped for someone prettier, but this girl is so unattractive I just can’t come right with it...

She is not ugly. Your ex boyfriend fell for her and clearly he saw something wonderful in her. Looks is entirely subjective. Either way he wanted her and not you. It has nothing to do with looks. You are just trying to comfort yourself to believe you are better than her and that he wil regret his decision. The only way to get over it is to work on yourself (stop being judgmental and downgrading other women to feel better about yourself. Start seeing the beauty and appreciation in everyond) and heal as you would in any other breakup. Take time for yourself and focus on interests. Also cut off all contact with your ex.

The girl is likely not “ugly” but you think she is because you are biased and bitter.
If you had a kinder heart and offered more than just your looks then you wouldn’t have this vain problem of yours.

Definitely. But I'm lucky that I have a very supportive family and live in a fairly good country too. No one can make it entirely on their own without at least a bit of help from others. And the failing part is human nature so I know I should expect it.

Mate, here in the states, I've been on my own since I was 7. I've had to figure out life and survival for myself. I'm 41 now, so not doing too bad, I guess.

Sorry to hear that, man. I guess the only thing I can say is that for every hardship you endure, there's always someone who's far worse off than you. That's not to make light of your own struggles, it's just trying to look on the bright side for a little source of optimism. Plus, you're doing well now so that's good to hear :)

Also, your social and management skills would most likely be superior to the average person cause you had to go through life the hard way which gave you access to lot of well-needed skills that not everyone would have.
