How do you stop cringing about a past mistake?

After my first girlfriend broke up with me I was kind of devastated. She wanted to remain friends, I said no but, for some reason, she kept trying to contact me. I ignored her for about a year or so.

She was my first love and one day I thought that I'd write her to let her know that I was sorry for ignoring her. Anyways, I wrote the cringiest message you can possibly think of. Looking back, it seemed like an apology and a love confession at the same time.

Those of you who have seen How I Met Your Mother and know Barney's origin story, well my message kinda resembled the tape he made for Sharon.

I cringe a lot looking back at it and I know she has laughed a lot at me. She showed it to many of our common friends and they don't look at me the same way they used too, often mocking me.

I don't feel anything for her anymore, mainly because I learned a little later that she was cheating on me while we were together (she got together with the guy she was cheating on me with after our breakup and eventually cheated on him too).

I don't know how to shake that cringe feeling
