Why hasn’t my ex unfollowed me?

Long story short, after we broke up I told him I was going to unfollow him, and he should consider doing the same. Few weeks later he asked for some of his stuff back so he’s coming over in a few weeks to pick it up.. I mentioned I was talking to someone new and to avoid getting hurt he should really think about unfollowing me.

So why hasn’t he? I don’t want to cause him pain, he’s a solid guy. But why on earth is he still following me especially when the news can potentially be upsetting for him?
