Ex boyfriend (8 months broke up) his best friend has just messaged wanting to meet?

Ok so ex dumped me 8 months ago totally out the blue. After near 3 years together. Pretty much no contact even though he said wanted to be friends forever. He quickly moved on to another 6 weeks later. Anyway I put an achievement post on Facebook and his best mate commented saying well done and I’m passing yours next week I’ll call in. He then text to say passing ish and wants to call in for brew. This will add on over 2 hours to his journey. He’s in a committed relationship (so no interest that way) and I’m friends with his mrs. Why the message and want to meet after so long?

Just to clarify. I’m not romantically interested in ex’s friend. He was a great mate and I care for him and his mrs and baby but just as dear friends. I’ve always had a rule I don’t do ex’s mates or brothers 😂.
But I did notice the day after he’d messaged that his mrs as limited me on Facebook.
When he text he also put that he hoped I was keeping well and that he missed me and I replied I miss you guys too (all of them) so if she’d read his phone there was nothing sinister in the messages?

Oh and few days after he wants to meet. I’m actually in their area (was a long distance relationship) I’m meeting up with his mrs and other of my ex’s mates mrs.
I might just tell him I’ll call in at his work for lunch save him hassle of detour?…

It sounds like this has nothing to do with your ex. Maybe his friend is dissatisfied with his relationship and wants to check out his options. 2 hours out of his way is not passing by. You're playing with fire, so just tell him you'll be busy, and pass on the opportunity.

Just spoken on phone to him. Told him how much extra time it would be. So I’m going to meet him just off motorway at cafe (neutral ground)!
But was really good to chat to him. Was like when I was there best mates. He just thought in area be good to catch up.
