My ex boyfriend of 5 years broke up with me last week and told me to move out (it was his house). I left the house. He then messaged me this week saying "hey just checking to to see you're doing ok ".
He then went on about how he doesn't regret anything of the 5 years and that he had thought about it but doesn't think he could've made it work and that we need time apart, that he hopes I understand that.
Kinda confused why he's sending me all of this.
Just because he broke up with you does not mean he doesn't really still care about you as a person. He's probably just checking up on you and wanted to make sure you are okay. That's a very decent thing to do. I do not think he wants to get back together with you though. Be happy that he was honest with you and set you free. That takes some courage but is the right thing to do.
I'd say he's pulling out his guilt insurance policy.
He's guilty that you two don't live together anymore. What would he have done if he asked if you're doing okay and you sounded all flipped out about it? He knew you were okay or he wouldn't have contacted you so soon.
He said it wasn't working out, then he said it again when he messaged you.
He's just getting used to you not being there anymore. I wouldn't take it like one day he will ask you to move back in though.
I'm so sorry. I know it's a hard adjustment for you now that you are not together anymore. Been there. Sounds like he's guilty and just checking on you. He still cares but I suggest that you don't expect too much that he will take you back I guess. Respect his decision and give him time to think. Wish you all the best! 🙏

Well, you should never make same mistake twice. It doesn't matter what he feels and wants now, he made a decision.
