I get it tbh. Depression is an awful beast. I hope he's doing okay and getting the help he needs. Depression is also a valid reason for a break-up. Sometimes you are just not in the right state to give your all to a person and don't want to "drag them down with you" so to speak. In your position I would continue being his friend and be there for him. It may even be easier that way. Good luck
