Why did my ex called me to say he has a new girlfriend?

My ex broke up with me around 2 weeks ago. We had a beautiful relationship for one year when we broke up we both said we sill love each other very much. I accepted the break up and didn't chase him or beg him to come back to me didn't call and didn't text him. Yesterday I realized he blocked me on social media and even though it hurts I carried on with my day. While I was getting ready I got a call from him and I thought it was very weird that he was calling me after blocking me. When I answered he said: I wanted to let you know that we will continue not to talk and I said we were not talking anyways why are you saying that out of the blue and he says my girl found out about you and I need to make sure I'm making things right and I said but I didn't even text you or called you are you ok? And he hangs up. This behavior caught me completely off guard I wasn't talking to him anyways why did he have to announce that he has a new girlfriend two weeks after the breakup and tell me not to talk to him when I didn't attempt to contact him? A few minutes later I checked once again and he unblocked me on social media.
