Sure. Also from what I've seen, most people do most of their changes/growing in between relationships. People who never take a break between relationships grow less & are more likely to have tons of baggage. Things were better back when people had very few relationships & they matured younger...

I'd guess that people saying that they are never going to have another relationship, is like people saying that they are never going to have a another drink, after the next day of barfing their guts up from drinking. They'll forget about it and go back to having relationships and having drinks.
