I think there was an agreement between the two of them that he would at some point retire, be with her, and be with the kids.

But just like most top athletes, he doesn't want to hang up his helmet yet. The feeling he got during those superbowl wins, let alone just the day-to-day camaraderie of being in a hyper-masculine environment, "fighting" isn't something many guys want to walk away from for domesticated life.
