Protecting you and kids are priority no matter what "he wants to father" now.
Perhaps he is maturing. Perhaps, you should seek professional advice. Perhaps, he could be on a supervised visitation. If I was serious I would agree to those sort of conditions and safeguards to "father." Those "orders or whatever" dissipate as time passes in a serious situationship.
The fact that he wants to be a father and you're against that is very telling. Shame on you.
