What's the point of begging for a 2nd chance?

My boyfriend recently broke up because he overheard a conversation I had with two friends about dating him for a dare to collect $100 and then ditch him. To my bad luck, he recorded it all on his cell.

However, I had actually caught feeling for him in the past 3 months and the plan backfired. I canceled the bet. Obviously he had a hard time believing me. However, this is the part I don't understand. This was his last message:

''For someone that claims to love me, you didn't even try to stop me from leaving. If it was me I would've try winning you back but you didn't even try. It doesn't sound like you love me enough''.

But if caught, what's the point? He already had everything recorded, besides apologizing once, what else could've done to win him back? Nothing. It looks like he wanted me to try though. What's the point of asking/begging for a 2nd chance?

It's too embarrassing asking for a 2nd chance and then I would have to deal with the whole rebuilding trust process, things likely not being the same, starting from an already messed up relationship caused by me, etc.

I've never in my life asked nor begged a man for 2nd chance, never asked to be taken back. Part of me feels like doing that but it's embarrassing. What's the point of that?
