You two dated for 6 months and you dumped him. There has been no contact between you two for 2 months. On your birthday he sends flowers and simply says "Happy Birthday". What do you do? How do you react? Do you throw the flowers out, or do you like that he thought of you?

Sending flowers to work was my thing... I know that she loves them, and no one will probably do that for her on that day. I don't want her back, she has a lot of growing up to do. But it will be a nice gesture and maybe make her remember how good I was to her.

If I broke up with him because the feelings weren't there, I would feel bad, that maybe he'd still have feelings for me and I'd have to turn him down again. I would react in a that's nice of you way, thanks but no thanks. I'd feel a bit awkward because the feelings wouldn't be returned.

If I broke up with him because I felt he didn't appreciate me or something needed to be changed, I might be a bit more grateful. The flowers would still feel out of place though and I wouldn't know what to do with them. Probably just have them around.

If you want to try getting back, you can put in the effort. Just be respectful of how she may feel and prepare for disapointment, don't expect much.

But in all, a break up means its over.

It is sweet and thoughtful, when it's from a guy you want to have contact with. If she's ignored all of those things before, she's not going to find it sweet. ok I'm going to picture a female here instead. well, depends on how I feel about her at that point. if I didn't have feelings for her anymore I would just send a thank you text. if I still had feelings for her, I would call her up and firstly thank her. then ask straight up how she feels about me. if I think its still worth it and she/circumstances have changed (there definitely has to be something that was wrong with her/the relationship if we broke up in the first place) then I would start off as probably slightly more than friends and slowly work up from there.

I confess I sent happy bday messages to my ex on social media for two of her bdays. She never did the same and she dumped me 3 weeks before my bday back then. She said some horrible things to me afterwards. Truth is I hoped deep down she would just give me a tiny positive signal. Just something to let me believe she regretted or didn’t mean to say what she said.

Anyway flowers and or any other tangible gifts is never more over the top. I guess in some rare scenarios can be a “I’m sorry I hurt you and I know you moved on. But just to let you know I cared”. But it has to be sent with zero expectations of getting a response and most people don’t get the response they hope for (if any at all).

Act like this while we were dating? I used to leave for work an hour early to take her a coffee in the morning that I would write a little love note on.
