Divorce question for my dad?

i know this app isn’t for legal stuff so sorry but.. my dads getting divorced and she said she’d take off the spousal support so we didn’t need 2 reply 2 the divorce papers because we agreed on everything. then it turns out she didn’t take it off and is now putting in a default case which takes my dads say so away because he didn’t reply. and just lied so we couldn’t counter file. has anyone gone through anything similar and have any idea what we could possibly do?

You are definitely correct as none of these kinds of sites are a good location for legal questions. But yeah, that's a trick and why the first thing one does is hire their attorney. I have no idea what one can do but you may want to internet search the topic. Good luck with the complications resulting from divorce.

Well she's turned on him and well, your father will be poor for the rest of his life because she'll get half of everything, both current and future

they were only married 5 years and she can only get it for half that

I haven't gone through it but how upset is your Mom. Anxiety can foster inactivity. It also could be a small tax issues as child support payments are tax deductible whereas alimony is not. I couldn't tell which buy is sounds more like alimony. That would be an awfully lame reason though. How financially secure is your father? If he is going through financial difficulties its possible that he simply can't afford it. Or most likely if tour Mon initiated the divorce proceedings and esp. if another man was involved, he could be resentful to the point of "I''ll show her". It's pretty scary to find out that adults are as capable of pettiness as kids are
