someone said getting back with ex just like reread the book, you know the ending and what to expect. But reading the book for the second or third times allows you comprehend subtle message which will give you another perception throughout the ending.

I like that analogy. So it's saying like 'it failed once for a reason but doing it the 2nd time will show you the signs why it failed'. Did I get it right?

yes, but also reading book the second time allows your feeling gives different point of view, if now your knowledge is sufficient for the book you read, it might leads to another feeling and hidden massage , might be a happy ending.

I find it fails more often than not. However, if you have succesfully resolved the past issues anf their cause it is as likely to succeed as any other relationship. In my experience most people do not do that though.
