Because they are immature. They have a fantasy girlfriend in mind and expect that any woman who pays them any attention is it. After a twenty minute conversation the think they are in love, and they are -- with their fantasy. When their date turns out to be a real person who doesn't match their fantasy, they break up with her. Love bombing is a huge red flag. Emotionally healthy people don't fall in love after one date.

Makes them feel better about themselves? Who knows. I know women who do that aswell. They love bomb you and ofcourse you reciprocate, and then when the honeymoon phase is over.. poof, they’re gone.
