It's been 3 months since his mother passed and since he made the decision to end our relationship? Should I contact him or continue to give him space?

His mother unfortunately passed away while I was deployed. He was very close to his mother, in fact, he mentioned that she was his best friend. I was so hurt that his mother passed. She was such a loving woman. I felt extremely guilty for not physically being there for him during such a life-changing experience. My deployment was completed a week after the funeral. I tried being there for him but he simply didn't want me around. So, I gave him what he asked for “space”.

If it's been a month since you talked, give him a call or text him. Let him know that you'll be there for him if he wants to vent

Left out a few things: I contacted him a little over a month ago. He appreciated me letting him know that I was here for him. But the situation remains the same he doesn't want to talk or see each other in person. I believe he thinks that I'm going to want to talk about his mother's passing ( which he told me before he broke up with me, he didn't want to talk about it at all) and that's not the case. I would never force anyone to speak about a situation they are not comfortable talking about.
I know it has nothing to do with me.. As he told me I did nothing wrong. I'm just stuck between continuing on with the no contact or check on him again?
