How much time should I give him after he broke up with his ex to decide if he wants a new relationship with me?

He broke up a couple of months ago with his ex, after many years together (his call). Nothing dramatic, they stayed friends. He asked me out recently (we've known each other since postgrad days), we dated a few times, he showed interest, he was romantic, even discussed some future plans. All platonic. But after each date he goes totally silent, no text, no call, takes days to reply. A common friend told me he behaves the same with him lately, especially after changing his job. When we meet, everything works great. I feel confused and I don't dare to write or to call him, I don't want to pressure him. Should I give him more space and time to clear up his mind? We haven't met in three weeks (we live two hours away and work a lot both of us, though).

Even when he doesn't reply? I'm not the kind to insist and pressure.

No if he doesn't reply wouldn't do that. But it tell you a lot to when he doesn't reply back on it any other time. Most of times not a great sign
