So my boyfriend told me he wanted a break from me for a few weeks. He told me he felt smothered and that I was clingy. He never told me he felt this way until a few days ago. He was always the one inviting me over and the one who wanted to pick me up at work. Him and I would text everyday and have good conversations. He said he felt that him and I got too close. Then he tells me that no girl made him feel so safe to open up to other than me. Then he started crying saying he didn’t want to lose me. My friend told me that he hopes I text him in a few weeks that he just felt overwhelmed.

Then he said to me that he doesn’t want me on tinder it going to bars and got mad I told him I was on tinder. He was like you’re going to ruin your life being on tinder. Someone else will just break your heart if you’re on there.

Mmm I was like this with a guy before. I cannot talk for your situation, I can only talk for mine.
When I was like this to a guy basically on and off I kept saying I felt suffocated and needed space/ break. And then after the space I would continue to go back to a full on connection (no one was holding a gun to my head.. I choose to keep going back knowing I always felt he was too much and too obsessed with me) and then right back to complaining I felt suffocated.
The truth is I did feel suffocated in the connection. I wanted out. But i kept going back because I have a lot of difficult family members and people I don't speak to. I loved the emotional closeness I had with this person. But deep down.. If i had better family support I would have dumped this guy.
That was just my situation. Can't talk for yours. But it is never a good sign when someone says your smothering them. Aka suffocating.
