I split with my ex ten years ago, we split in the first year of university so we were both very young. We briefly reconnected last year, he made it clearly he wants to date again but I just wasn’t in the right head space (took me a long time to heal from an abusive relationship). We lost touch and started speaking again a few weeks ago. He said he was sad when we stopped talking and that he made peace with it. He said I’m easy to talk too and wants to see me once he’s back from his holiday.

I told him part of me still loved him (he was my first love and I was just enjoying chatting to him). He said he wasn’t sure how he feels since it’s been a long time. The past week he has being acting really weird, making zero effort to talk but he keeps watching every single story I post on Instagram. He will reply at times when I message him but I’ve decided to leave it be now. Why is he acting like this?

Some people are like this. If he can’t respond for a bit being busy that’s fine but he’s watching your stories. You’ve been honest and communicated.

Look if someone isn’t putting the same effort in that you are. It’s better to leave it be. That’s what I do

You’re welcome and you did make the right decision. If someone’s genuinely interested they aren’t going to play games.

There’s many reasons why people do it. For some it’s to boost their ego. They want to know someone’s attracted to them without ever having plans to be with them. Even if its a ex. They want to be able to know and say that “oh she just can’t get over me”. Another reason is that they want to keep you on the back burner. In case something else doesn’t work out.

Even if he just wanted to be your friend. He still wouldn’t play games like this

Being nervous is okay. But making no effort to talk but watching your story is weird. I do think it’s best to leave it. It could be a lot of things. Maybe he’s just not sure of how he feels, at the same time he needs to communicate that.

Actually, you're not exactly what he wants right now. Something is going on in his world, and he's just trying to have you as a backup option until he sorts things out with the other person.
