Why don’t marriages last anymore?

Question

I knew someone that’s been married for 45 years but they ended up divorcing. I never understood why people who were married for 20, 30, or even 40 years +, they divorced and then later date other people.

People act like divorce is high these day's but divorce was in fact at its highest in the 1980s. Divorce can stem from many factors.

Growing Apart or Lack of Intimacy
Constant Arguing
Incompatibility
Changing Priorities

The only difference these days is now that there is the internet for people to talk about divorce more widely and people like to point fingers to 'liberalism' but divorce is higher in red states. People get married before they are ready more often than not. Some stick it out for a long time before they decide to end things. Marriage is not doomed but people should do it for the right reasons and I think people really need to get to know each other before running to tie the knot.

It depends, I think my first marriage would have ended in a death if not divorce. On the opposite end I find it difficult to imagine my marriage now ending. Maybe once the kids are gone if it was static and boring for years at a time with no willingness to do anything.

In my parent's case, my father was an alcoholic and later cheated on my Mom (late) but they got a no-fault divorce in 1994 which was 30 years after their marriage on July 18, 1964. I was born Feb 9, 1968.

Some couples grow apart. Or their kids grow up and they find they no longer have that common activity of raising kids to hold the marriage together. Some people just de ide they want to do something else

In a word, women. Studies show the number 1 reason for divorce is lack of commitment, and women file 80% of divorces. That is very telling. Women are destroying the institution of marriage.
