Is it ever okay to break up with someone over text? In what scenarios would it be okay?

Once upon a time I always believed you should break up with someone face to face, but in today's world where people are increasingly evil and some have even murdered their partners, I might say it's okay to break up over text if you know for a fact and with your own experience that the other person could be violent/dangerous. Doing it by text could save your life.
Now, if you feel like you know the other person well enough and they've always been level-headed or even gentle a. k. a. "wouldn't hurt a fly," then you should still give that person the decency of a transparent break up face to face.
I think it's a lovers way out. There is so much miscommunication involved when texting.
If it would be in your best interests to not be in each other's presence while breaking up, then texting would be fine. If the situation could be dangerous/abusive or just overall you would feel scared about your life, then breaking up through text is absolutely fine.
Text is pretty bad. I guess if it turns abusive when you try to communicate and you have tried to break up and they just won't listen then text is a way to get your words out uninterrupted.
