Do people typically post more pictures of themselves on social media after a break up?

I had a friend (he’s not my friend anymore bc we learned that he’s a pervert lol) who started to post a lot more on social media after his relationship of 6 years ended. Not just selfies but also posting a lot more of his daily life.

I just noticed someone else I went to school with and have been following for years has been posting a lot of selfies lately, and for some reason I immediately thought “him and his girlfriend probably broke up”

so after doing some internet stalking (I have no life, sue me), I realized that I’m correct. It looks like his relationship also ended recently.

so is this common? Has anyone else noticed that someone will post more after a break up?

And why so? Are they posting more to get attention from other potential partners online? are they posting to seem happy and normal online to hide the fact that they’re heart broken? 😅😅

no idea... I don't use social media...

but if their partner didn't enjoy showing pics... so now they freely can... or they just want to show to show their ex they are enjoying themselves after break up...

and as everyone is different and has different motivations there can be countless reasons and factors :D

I do. It’s hard to explain but I have more energy to spend on sharing my life online when I’m not preoccupied with a relationship. In a relationship im too busy sharing myself with them that I don’t worry about sharing much on social media for everyone else. When I was single years ago, I think I posted a photo of myself or whatever I was doing weekly. But since being in a relationship I make like 2-3 posts per year, lol.

maybe now they have more time to take back other things and focus on else?

or maybe it's just some sort of confirmation bias? not all people who broke up are posting more, and not all who are posting more have broken up... but they couple you found doing it so make you think "this might be an always thing..."? lol...

I never said “I believe that this is the case for every single human being ever” lol.
Im asking if it’s something that anyone has noticed and if it’s in fact a pattern or not. Thats like the point of the question.

I mean I don’t think something as simple as posting selfies online is something that I NEED confirmation for lol. It’s silly, I don’t care about being right about it.
I just found it funny that I noticed someone posting, automatically assumed it was because of a break up, and then ended up being correct about it.
It could of just been a lucky guess based off nothing but I just wanted to see if anyone else noticed someone doing that before or not

I didn’t; I went the other way and deleted my accounts. This is my only social media now. Plus I found Facebook had completely lost its purpose.

I did start posting more. Even though yes I’m heartbroken but prior to the relationship I had an instagram for fashion and I was told I had to delete it, so to respect the person and relationship I did. The photos I posted weren’t racy or anything like that. To be honest I wouldn’t have posted for another 6 months post breakup if I hadn’t found out he was chatting/liking others girls photos. So in a way I’m forcing myself to go back to who I was and maybe be happy.
