Why do guys follow girls freshly after a breakup?

I broke up with my boyfriend last week because I just realized there needs to be some maturing and change on both sides and I thought that some time apart would help and he agreed. Then he’s telling me that he added some girls on Snapchat that he used to be friends with or some shit even though they clearly weren’t important enough for me to remember who they are. Then I made the mistake to see if he followed any people on instagram which he did. I know I shouldn’t be thinking too much into it since I’m the one who broke up with him, but if we came to a mutual agreement to work on ourselves I don’t understand how distracting yourself with women helps? I can tell he still loves me, but at the same time him doing that so soon seems disrespectful, at that point can you still love someone and do that? He tries to reassure me with this stuff but I just don’t understand, he's about to graduate college and move back home, so I’m trying to think of it as like his “moment of freedom” and then the emotions will settle in later? We were tg for two years our anniversary was just a couple weeks ago, so I can’t tell if this is an ego thing or what since I did the dumping.
