I've been in a situation like this just recently, and after being hurt from my 3 year relationship even, since I am at the phase where I also want a serious relationship with the right person.
So it was a successive hit for me but it is a discovery.

at least you know which is more important.

Ofcourse it isn't an easy ofcourse, and I will tell you that be thankful he is being direct with you even if it may ache.

At first it was something I cannot digest but eventually I realized yes it will hurt for a while and you will feel alone for a while just as I have and trust me it will pain you but at least you are in a situation where you can still meet the man who would like to be in the same page as you are.

Remember it's not about the fear of being alone itself for a while after a breakup.
But rather, be with the right man who is willing to be in the same page as you, and see you where you are, because a man who isn't in that phase yet will only be dragging and you wouldn't want that.

I know it will feel alone for a while, but look at my situation too, it was really tough at first, but eventually you will encounter the man who will see your perspective in the same way and it will feel right.
