Why do the same two people get back together with one another after going through a nasty breakup?

That doesn't always happen, but when it does, it's because the couple has worked out what caused the breakup, and realize that being together is better than being apart.

It could also be thst the couple is settling for each other, thinking it's too hard to find someone else.

SOMEtimes you realize that you ARE meant to be together... that no one else "gets" you the way this person does, and so there's a sort of nostalgia that hits and you get caught up in that. I've SEEN perhaps four couples successfully reconnect, but in most cases it's just "round 2" of the original debacle as the two people rediscover why they should never have been anywhere near one another to begin with.

Okay. When you live with someone, tensions build. Sometimes one or both partners need to vent these tensions. There are healthy and unhealthy ways to do that. I'm not sure where on the 'nasty breakup' spectrum you are, but if you are talking about using words not fists then these are fairly common incidents. Frankly, if there isn't something you feel you would like to yell at your spouse, then you are not committed.

People get back together for the same reasons they got together in the first place. True love.

Basically they’re typically just fooling themselves.

They considered maybe it was just a misunderstanding and they jumped to conclusions. Unfortunately this is typically due to desperation and wanting an easy fix to a difficult situation.

It depends, if they get back together really quickly, then they're toxic and love the drama. But if there's time in between maybe they've changed and moved on from whatever happened first time.
