If you hurt someone out of fear, but come back later because you realized you love them, do you still deserve a second chance?

We had something special. I left out of fear but came back later, only to find him gone. I tried talking it through with him multiple times even after our breakup. Now it's been a year and I’m still stuck and don’t know how to move on.

You don’t “deserve” anything from other people unless they explicitly agree to it. Therefore it’s not up to you to decide whether or not you deserve a chance, let alone another chance. It’s up to the person from whom you want that chance, and nobody else.
Suggesting that you deserve something is entitlement. You’re not entitled to another person’s time, attention, affection, money, or anything else… unless THEY say otherwise.
