For context, it was a long distance relationship. We met each other online, the relationship was entirely online (except two short meetings) and we eventually broke up. He had horrible mood swings, he treated me very bad at one point. He'd never do anything that would make him look like a 'simp', while I was his girlfriend. It was always me apologizing, crying, resolving fights. I was at my lowest emotionally, I thought I didn't deserve anything better and it was my first relationship.
After the breakup 8 months have passed and my ex still talks to me from time to time. I was still kinda holding on the memories of the relationship. But I met a guy recently (not dating app but everyday life) and he's extremely nice, especially nice to me. I have a feeling that he likes me and my friends also think that. I was surprised by the way he treated me, he's much kinder, gentler to me than towards anyone else. Besides, he had been there for me even when everyone else chose to not be. I can't help but like him. The thought of my ex never crosses my mind these days. Is it okay to move forward in this relationship?
