If I date my ex’s casual friend, can it realistically stay a secret?

I broke up with my boyfriend for the right reasons and apparently he kept his friend in the loop as well. Though they are friends I do not think they are close. This guy contacted me a few months to confirm the break up. Then he said he wants to hang out next month and we could go out etc. I already told him I do not want to associate with that friend group involving my ex since they were toxic. He said it is fine and asked if i would mention it to them and i said no because I cut ties with them already.

So is it safe to assume these people have no way of knowing?
