After a breakup, do you keep photos and messages or delete everything?

I always deleted them right away. And I usually delete all texts. And I still delete all texts. But recent breakup and I still have the pictures. For some reason it was hard for me when I looked at the pictures of us. But now I don’t get too emotional when I look at them because they pop up as memories on my iPhone. Just the missing part is there a bit

Over 50 years ago I was "dumped" by a young woman I loved very much. She never gave me any explanation that made sense. She just said she "didn't think it would work." She also denied that there was anyone else. I couldn't quite bring myself to get rid of any pictures or mementos of our two years together. I took all my pictures of her and us and put them in an envelope and shoved them in a drawer so I wouldn't look at them. But then I received a letter from her a few weeks later., saying that she wasn't sure I understood what she was really saying. At that point, I felt a surge of anger and self-disgust at what a fool I'd allowed myself to become. I ran upstairs and tossed out everything that reminded me of her, including all those photos! I did it all at once, without thinking about it! THAT was the beginning of my healing process! I sometimes wonder what I would say to her if I ever ran into her today!

important note here... but I first had a girlfriend back when I was 16, so that's forever ago

my relationships were in person, face to face... and not through the phone... so, I really don't have much of messages or photos

either way, all of my messages and photos are automatically deleted after a couple of months or so, lol

ironically... I'm still great friends with two of my exes, so there's nothing to miss lol... I do see them from time to time, I just see them as friends, though... not as "my exes" anymore

I deleted everything. It was a mutual breakup and amicable. The only things I kept were photos that were group ones that he was in. I wasn't going to erase memories with others because of him.

Going and deleting them would be a deliberate effort, I just don’t open them anymore.

I usually don't put effort into it either way. I don't actively seek out the pictures and delete everything, I just move on. I just ignore them and they slowly go away in the sands of time.

I have a few printed photos from eras long gone past, when we were in our youth.

I haven't broken up with anyone in over 35 years, though.

These days, I'd as likely as not be too laidback to even think about going to the trouble of getting rid of anything.

I get rid of everything. It doesn’t seem healthy holding on to pieces of relationship. That’s already ended. You should be trying to move on from that time and reliving those memories is it gonna complicate the process so there’s no sense in doing it

On the grapevine 🍇 I hear the rumour is that women especially, "usually" delete everything or Paint edit everything / crop - or most things.

Or alternatively - the women kept the things especially if they were a PornHub 20s couple channel or a OnlyFans couple 20s for real 😅👀

The only rule I tend to use these days is that I delete all stored pictures and videos BUT one, just one happy memory will remain stored.

It depends on the relationship.. but in my opinion if you are done with that person then delete, delete…delete and don’t forget to empty the trash

I keep everything. It’s part of my life and part of my history. You can’t erase history by throwing stuff away. Besides in all relationships there is good and bad. It all should be remembered.

its been a long time but I might still have a few photos of my ex girlfriend. All the letters and the stuff she bought me which really was not much for being with someone for 4 years are long gone.

You can't erase your past. Your relationships are a part of you. It is only difficult in the beginning. I look back on all my ex-girlfriends with pretty fond memories and love our time together for what it was.
