My ex and I broke up about 3 months ago. We've seen each other a bit and hooked up a couple of times since then, and talked on the phone a few times. He is going through a really stressful time and doesn't know what he wants. I know I wanted to work things out with him, but the situation lately just hurts me. I try to be a supportive friend, but it's so hard right after a break up. And also, nothing I can do will help him, he kind of just needs to sort things out for himself at this time.
I cut contact with him a few days ago. This isn't because I wouldn't love to work things out, but it is to protect my feelings. I think the only thing I can do is try to move on. I'm planning on moving back across the country where I'm from. He'll be moving around the same time only staying closer to our city now. I will probably have a gathering with friends before I officially move. Would it be a bad idea to invite him, since I'm trying to move on? Should I call him or something before I leave, even though I'm trying not to talk to him now? He had said he wanted to have dinner before we moved, but now I just don't know if I should include him. I'm sure he'd her through our friends, and I don't want to make him feel bad.
Just wondering a little in advance what to do. I'm extremely sad over this. A lot of our friends think he will come around after it's too late, and that has been my biggest worry about moving, that he'll figure out he does want me when I'm gone, and then what do we do? Last time I didn't contact him for a month he came crawling back in my arms and wanted to work things out. But I know that we both need to be in a better place in our lives to make a good decision about that, so I just want to give him space.
