why does my ex-bf call me 'matey'?

i told him I'm not his mate, I'm his ex. would he find this a snub? I will not be friend zoned

he has a new-gf, been with her 6 months. when I've asked him if he wants to stay in touch, he seems to p**** about, unable to give me the push

hes never told me he doesn't love me any more, and we split because he wanted a long term thing and I couldn't provide that for hi,. nothing to do with me not loving him

what gives?

Well if he never said he didn't love you, then he probably still has some feelings for you... Not sexual, but as a friend. You were there for him when you were together weren't you? And you didn't break up because of cheating, or anything like that, just that you weren't ready for a long term relationship.

Are you Australian? The Aussies say "mate" or "matey" as a friend. Not an actual 'mate' lol. I call my friends my mates even though I'm American. I just like the sound of it :D

Not sure why he gets mad when you ask him he if wants to stay in touch. Just a theory... probably not correct, but what the heck...

He wants to be friends with you, but he can't because he's in a a committed relationship with his current girlfriend.

Guys always want to keep options open. They never want to close all of their doors because they never know when a door will close in front of them. He probably is trying to keep some form of communication with you so that he still has a connection with a person he once cared deeply or still does care about. By keeping friendship lines open, there is always the possibility that things can evolve from that. If he were to refer to you as his ex, there are connotations with that word that make it difficult to have the same form of connection.
