It means his friend approves of you and thinks you are a good catch and that his friend should hold on to you. It is actually a fishing term as in the fish you keep or the ones you throw back. You are a keeper:)

When you go fishing, there is a legal size you can keep, anything smaller has to be thrown back. Hence, a keeper is something good enough to keep.

Because "David says you're a keeper" (without the giggles) implies that 1. David wants you or that 2. He is seriously considering keeping you long-term based exclusively on what his friends said. I imagine that he didn't want to imply something so serious via text, yet he still wanted to tell you what his friend said. . . thus the digital giggle.

Then your man wanted to reflect the context in which David said the comment by laughing via text. The guys were probably joking about something that they like their ladies to do, your man said that you do that something and the guys laughed and gave fist bumps and whatnot. It's not unusual, and he wasn't lying to you.

If you have read some book series, you would know to make things less awkward, the characters would do something even more awkward, like laughing at the idea or to pass time. I personally think if its a good relationship, then he wants to keep you.
