My boyfriend from time to time says that I OWN him....What does that mean?

He some times says that I own him. But its so confusing to me because I don't feel like he is my property or anything. I don't want him to think that way either...We have been dating a little over 3 and a half months...kinda exclusively. Does anyone know why he says that I "own" him, and what his intentions may be behind this? If I supposedly owned him as he says it why does he not want us to date openly?

He text me something a a couple days ago and I responded to it.

He replied back from my response to his text (very personal info I will not disclose on here) saying that he told me this because I OWNED him, he exaggerated the the word then goes on to say that at least he thought I did.

So Guys (and girls too) What does he mean by that?

Just so you ALL know I do not try and control him. I give him his space, don't call him EVERY single day, I text him at least 1-2 times a day. I don't demand all of his attention either. So controlling him is not an issue...

He sounds like a very romantic boyfriend =). I've told a girl that I love that "I am your property," lol. I''m a really confident guy and I have no self-esteem issues. It's just a very poetic way of expressing your devotion to your girl. The expression has been around forever, even before Shakespearean romance.

It's not anything to worry about. When he says it just give him a kiss and love him more =).

It is a good thing, like everyone else said. But it is kinda strange that he says that, yet he won't date you openly? Some guys are weird like that though. If you're okay with that, then there's no problem here.

Well it was originally my Idea for us to date exclusively but I only did this because I didn't know if us dating would turn into something serious or not. Maybe he is just waiting on me to decide when I am ready to make our relationship public. He is often times bring up the subject of him some day meeting my family, well more so their reaction to meeting him any way. I know he wants something serious with me. He has said before he plans on being with me for a while. He is 41 and I am 22...
